We welcomed 10 First Timers for August's PPAC 5km race with everyone finishing comfortably within 41 minutes. Well done to this week's top category finishers Sreypov and Meyjou in the female youth and seniors respectively, and Soboros and newcomer Ryo in the equivalent male categories.
Results
This month's event saw some of the closest racing we've ever seen
near the front of the pack, with seven runners finishing in under 20 minutes
and positions #3 to #6 separated by just eight seconds!
There were seven PBs for athletes with previously recorded 5km times
including big improvements by Phaline, Paul and Dola. Three athletes also
recorded new points PBs, marking their best ever performances across all PPAC
event distances!
Analysis & Consistency
There were two performances with excellent pacing (sub-1.00 pacing consistency) this week from Mark and Meyjou. An evenly paced effort (including slight negative splitting) is a great away to help reach your performance potential in distance running. We use a formula to generate a pacing consistency rating for any performance that involves 2 or more laps or splits.
Fitness Factor
If we know an athlete's height and weight on race day we can combine these
with their finishing time to calculate a FF score. Individuals doing similar
levels of training are likely to achieve a similar fitness factor regardless
of their absolute height, weight and finishing time. (It's important to note
that FF is not an absolute measure of fitness, FF is a product of Absolute
Fitness x Running Economy). You can use your Fitness Factor score to assess
your progress over time as well as compare with other runners' performances
in middle and long distance events. As a rule of thumb, the higher the FF
score, the better trained the athlete!
