PPAC-99 5km Road Race

The club's sixth 5km of the year was held in dry conditions for the season and saw a good turnout with a mix of local and international youth and senior athletes. This year's 5km events are part of the 2022 5km road race series where every finish gets you a score. We will be tracking various statistics including races completed, PBs, best laps and consistency over the course of the year so make sure you join often and chart your progress with PPAC! We had six first timers and twelve athletes taking part in their first PPAC 5km race with everyone finishing within 45 minutes. Well done to this week's first place category finishers Charonay and Yin Ling in the youth and senior women's respectively, and Soboros and Dan in the equivalent men's categories. We had eight impressive PBs for athletes with previously recorded 5km times including new bests for four youth athletes with several big improvement...

PPAC-98 3km Road Race

Approaching halfway through the year, PPAC's fifth race of the 3km road series was held in mild conditions at the Chbar Ampouv 'off-road' course. Twenty-two athletes started, including four first timers, and all completed the race under twenty-four minutes including some exciting sprint finishes at the end. Again we had some excellent performances all round, with new PBs for nine out of fourteen athletes with previously recorded 3km times and eight athletes achieving their first 3km results. Four athletes improved their times by a margin of over 10% which is a huge jump in performance but even small improvements are a great achievement - as you reach closer to your potential, every little improvement is more and more of a challenge! Three athletes also scored points PBs, recording their best ever results overall in any PPAC race - so a special well done to them. PPAC points allow individual athletes ...

3km Road Race Rankings [Jan-Mar 2022]

Already one quarter of the way through 2022 and we've had two open 3km races and an additional race held as part of the youth championship in early February. On the eve of our fourth 3km race of the year here are the overall rankings for performances so far. 16-01  PPAC-87 3km Road Race 06-02  PPAC-90 3km Road Race (Youth Championship Round 2) 27-02  PPAC-92 3km Road Race We've recorded 67 performances so far in 2022 and out of those 48 individuals have recorded times. Here we've ranked the best performances from each individual participant in 2022. Overall rankings are ordered by PPAC Points which allow a fair comparison between M and F performances as well as giving an idea of relative performance to compare with other distances. Performances which did not score points are listed by finish time. With nine months of the year remaining and at least 6 more 3km road races scheduled by PPAC (and hopefully some other 3km races), athletes have the chance to build up their per...

PPAC-93 5km Road Race

First event of the month is our third 5km road race of the year, already one quarter of the way through the 2022 5km series. We have a strong line up this week with twenty-six athletes including a few new faces, and the race start has reverted to 6 am as mornings get earlier and we head into the warmer period of the year. At the front of the pack we have Andarge, Patt and 5km first timer Hiroshi putting in a superbly paced effort to traverse the field for third overall. Meyjou is first across the line in the women's category followed by top youth athlete Erika, just ahead of third placed Xiao Ju. Soboros's seventh place overall sees him lead the boys category this week. There are PBs for Pasi and Bertrand, both knocking around 20 seconds of their PBs as they get closer to 22-minute range, and two excellent PBs for Chansovatey going sub-30 for the first time and Erika going 2:33 better than her previous top...

PPAC-92 3km Road Race

A smaller 3km race this week at our new course in Chbar Ampouv. 8 athletes toed the line comprising 4 seniors and 4 junior athletes. The Chbar Ampouv course features a 1.5km loop with tight turns on either end of a long straight. The course has proven to be fairly fast in recent races and conducive to good performances. However, with a smaller field and several athletes returning from absences, it would prove to be a tough day for everyone. The conditions were relatively cool, despite the later than usual 6:40am start time. In the seniors race, Matthieu and Jack raced together in the early stages and pushed each other to keep the pace honest. Jack held a three second lead at the halfway point and was able to maintain the pace to finish first, while Matthieu slowed slightly but still held on to a comfortable second place and secure a 7 second PB. Once again, consistency in pacing proved vital with our top two finishers jo...

PPAC-91 Youth Championship Round 3 - 200m & 400m (Final Round)

Thirty-two motivated athletes gathered for the third and concluding round of Phnom Penh Athletics Club's inaugural Youth Championship. For Round 3 athletes started with 200m in ten category-based heats of three or four runners, followed, after a short rest, by the 400m with just one heat per category. Event 4 - 200m The 200m sprint was the second event held fully in lanes on the track (after the 100m). Athletes set off from a staggered start on the back straight before negotiating the bend and finishing the race on the home straight. There were a number of exciting races with heats seeded by overall points ranking leading to some close finishes, including the top two U19 girls who were separated by just 0.05s at the line. Event 5 - 400m The 400m followed a unique format owing to the layout of the 300m track, with a staggered start in lanes from the 100m start point with all at...
