PPAC-88 400m Race and Sprint Masterclass

Youth athletes were put through their paces with sprinting practice and drills this week before testing out newly learned skills in a 400m race held in five heats

The session started with a 10 minute jog followed by some ground contact exercises and strides. Athletes then practiced the crouch start for sprints before a final section working on full sprinting form.

Youth girls (plus one senior) went in the first two heats with Sokry and Sokung winning respectively. Sokung's 1:24 also scored her a big new points PB while Sreypov ran a point scoring performance for the first time.
In the third heat, Mon Mey scored a big points PB with his winning time of 1:13, scoring points for the first time and finishing three seconds ahead of Paul with the two youth athletes further back.
In the penultimate heat, four U12 boys raced the 400m for the first time with Mau the standout performer finishing well ahead of the others in 1:37.
Finally event organisers Meyjou and Jack ran head to head with Jack edging to the win in the day's best time of 1:10.39. However, Meyjou's 1:12.34 was the top overall performance scoring 527 points to Jack's respectable 340.

Special thanks this week to coach Meyjou, volunteers Paul and Jack and the others who supported this event by accompanying the athletes or helping in any other way. We hope the athletes enjoyed the session!

PPAC-147 5km Road Race [4 May 2025]

For our May 5K we were pleased to welcome several new participants for their first event with Phnom Penh Athletics Club , including 7 visiting athletes from SheRuns Club. Developing inter-club competition is one of our priorities, so this week's race was a great step forward for club-level athletics in Cambodia. The race report and full results are below. Our next race will be a track meet on 01 June. Please stay tuned to our regular channels for a race announcement. Results Craig (1st male) led from the start, putting several seconds into the chase pack on the first lap and only extending his lead from there. Running alone did not seem to affect his plan as he ran away to a new PB and a comfortable victory. Things were a little closer in the chase pack with Hugo , Mathieu and Yohann working together to push each other and keep the race honest. Eventually, it would be the experienced Mathieu who was able to...

PPAC-149 5km Road Race [6 July 2025]

For our July 5K we were pleased to welcome several new participants for their first event with Phnom Penh Athletics Club , including athletes from Sachkam  Running Club. The race report and full results are below. Please stay tuned to our regular channels for our next race announcements. Results This Sunday PPAC was back for another terrific 5K race at Sokha. In an attempt to beat the morning sun, the race started at 5:49 AM with 18 speedy runners taking the line. For this race, we were fortunate to have some PPAC members offer themselves for pacing duties; Jess (Sub-30), Mark (Sub-25) and Hugo (Sub-20). Their pacing had an obvious impact, with strong pace packs forming during the race and a number of people reaching their goals thanks to the pacing. At the front of the race, Hugo led a pack of six runners through the Park Lap running at sub-20 minute pace. The group gradually lost a few, but Paul (1st p...

PPAC-151 5km Road Race [7 September 2025]

Our September PPAC 5K was well attended, with many new faces and regular attendees showing up to test out their fitness. 23 athletes lined up to start the race including 9 Phnom Penh Athletics Club members, and 9 first timers! The race began at 6:03am in good running conditions with a slight breeze. This week we were glad to offer pacing for some of the popular time goals. Thanks to Hugo (Sub-20min pacer), Styvenn (Sub-22min pacer) and Jack (Sub-24min pacer) for their contributions. If you are interested in hitting a specific time goal at our next 5K race, let us know and we'll do our best to find a pacer if we can! In the men's race we saw Terence get out fast, showing his unmatched speed and helping himself to an all-time road course record of 16:24. The previous record of 16:42 was set almost five years ago by Pheara Vann, so it was exciting to see the record finally fall. Terence's running is a source of inspiration for many of our athletes, ...
