For our November 5km we had 23 athletes taking the start line for what proved to be a fast race in favorable conditions. Cooler weather has made Phnom Penh quite pleasant in the last week, and the athletes on Sunday morning made the most of it.
This week we had 10 PPAC members, and 2 athletes from SheRuns participating.
The race kicked off at 6:02AM, and instantly took shape, with the finishing order already mostly established by the time the athletes made it through the first checkpoint.
Race Report
In the men's, Craig (1st) went out with a clear goal and was consistent with his pacing. Leading from the front all race and helping himself to a healthy PB in 18:09. Hugo (2nd) was next in line and added to his run of consecutive sub-20 performances, this time with a PB. Paul (3rd), reliable as ever, rounded out the podium with a sub-20 performance of his own.
We then saw a flurry of men coming through between 22 and 23 mins with Guillaume (taking part in his 10th PPAC event!), David, Adrien and Julien all finishing within a few seconds of each other and demonstrating the value of racing together with a pack.
Our women's race was once again led by Muyngim (SheRuns Club) , who continues to rack up 1st place finishes at PPAC events. Alexa (SheRuns Club) showed an impressive debut performance claiming 2nd and dipping 1s under her 23min goal time! Florence (PPAC) was the 3rd woman across the line, achieving an enormous PB, shaving more than a minute off her time.
Melina impressed us all, taking 1st place in the U18 girls category, finishing ahead of plenty of girls and adults much bigger than her!
A shout out to PPAC members who volunteered to pace-set this week, Yonas, Narom and Adolfo!
We were delighted to welcome the Te family, with Polo and his 2 daughters coming along and running together as a family. Lovely to see family getting active and inspiring each other.

Race Replay
The table below shows split times and average pace per km for each
section of the race. The Pacing Consistency rating is designed to give
runners an idea of how well they have balanced their efforts across the
whole race. Generally speaking, consistent, evenly paced efforts are the
best way to achieve your fastest possible time.
Ratings under 1.00
indicate excellent pacing, and the lower the number, the better, in
general, for optimal performance in highly aerobic running events such as
the 5km and beyond.
This week we saw 5 athletes achieve sub-1.00 consistency rankings. This indicates they are correctly pacing themselves throughout the race and not wasting any energy. Helene's top performing score of 0.09 is about as perfect a pacing performance as we could aim for. Even splits through the first two checkpoints, with a slight negative split on the last lap. Outstanding!
