PPAC-153 5km Road Race [1 March 2026]

Our first 5km race for the year was a great success, with moderate weather conditions that apparently proved to be conducive for personal bests.

Race Report

Our men's race was led from wire to wire by Hugo, who took another big step shaving a whopping 30s off his PB and claiming another 1st place result. Behind him, the men's chase pack of Styvenn (2nd) Paul (3rd) and Simon (4th) all battled hard and exchanged places to eventually finish within arms reach of one another and all under the 20min barrier.

The women's field has been taken by storm after the debut of one of PPACs latest recruits, Dorie. Dorie masterfully executed a negative split pacing strategy. Sitting 42s behind Muyngim after the first Sokha lap, she quietly went to work in the the second lap to cut the margin and take the win late. Muyngim (2nd), for her part in pushing the pace of the women's race, earned herself one of her fastest results of the last few years, showing a strong return to form. Sarou rounded out the women's podium with a PB of her own, wiping a whopping minute-and-a-half from her previous best!

Well done to the two youth athletes in the field, Kimsan (1st) and Sothir (2nd) who battled intensely. Sothir started fastest, establishing a 25s lead after the first Sokha lap. But Kimsan turned things around after the halfway mark, picking up the pace and evaporating that gap, blowing right past Sothir and taking a 20s lead of his own by the finish. It wasn't for nought for Sothir though, the competition and rivalry must have pulled him along as he unbelievably shaved almost 8 minutes off his previous best. A monumental leap!

Our analysis and pacing tables reveal the most consistent runners, who are able to use their experience to expertly pace their efforts, ensuring they get the most our of their effort, without burning out too early. In typical fashion, Davide was right at the top of the consistency score, followed by four other athletes who all managed a consistency score of lower than 5 (Sarou, Dorie, Oriana, Vanessa).

Our next 5km race will be Sunday 3rd of May. Stay tuned for more details!

Analysis - Splits and Pacing

The table below shows split times and average pace per km for each section of the race. The Pacing Consistency rating is designed to give runners an idea of how well they have balanced their efforts across the whole race. Generally speaking, consistent, evenly paced efforts are the best way to achieve your fastest possible time.
Ratings under 1.00 indicate excellent pacing, and the lower the number, the better, in general, for optimal performance in highly aerobic running events such as the 5km and beyond.

PPAC-147 5km Road Race [4 May 2025]

For our May 5K we were pleased to welcome several new participants for their first event with Phnom Penh Athletics Club , including 7 visiting athletes from SheRuns Club. Developing inter-club competition is one of our priorities, so this week's race was a great step forward for club-level athletics in Cambodia. The race report and full results are below. Our next race will be a track meet on 01 June. Please stay tuned to our regular channels for a race announcement. Results Craig (1st male) led from the start, putting several seconds into the chase pack on the first lap and only extending his lead from there. Running alone did not seem to affect his plan as he ran away to a new PB and a comfortable victory. Things were a little closer in the chase pack with Hugo , Mathieu and Yohann working together to push each other and keep the race honest. Eventually, it would be the experienced Mathieu who was able to...

PPAC-146 3000m & 200m Track Double-Header [6 April 2025]

For our April track meet , we had a mix of club members and guests showing up to put in some hard work and test themselves against strong competition. The 3000m is an excellent fitness test, athletes can use this distance as a benchmark and it is very helpful for setting paces for training zones or for predicting goal race paces for longer distances. The 200m is a pure speed event, and something that a lot of us forget to train for, but is always a fun race and often has exciting close finishes! Race report and full results and analysis below: Race Report In the 3000m, Hugo P. was the men's leader from the gun, demonstrating consistent pacing with a clear goal time in mind, achieving a 12.5s PB. Styvenn (2nd) earned himself a PB by shedding a whopping 23.6s off his previous best. Styvenn is one of the brave few who show up every Tuesday morning at 5AM to grind it out in our Early Bird Threshold session. Clearly...

PPAC-151 5km Road Race [7 September 2025]

Our September PPAC 5K was well attended, with many new faces and regular attendees showing up to test out their fitness. 23 athletes lined up to start the race including 9 Phnom Penh Athletics Club members, and 9 first timers! The race began at 6:03am in good running conditions with a slight breeze. This week we were glad to offer pacing for some of the popular time goals. Thanks to Hugo (Sub-20min pacer), Styvenn (Sub-22min pacer) and Jack (Sub-24min pacer) for their contributions. If you are interested in hitting a specific time goal at our next 5K race, let us know and we'll do our best to find a pacer if we can! In the men's race we saw Terence get out fast, showing his unmatched speed and helping himself to an all-time road course record of 16:24. The previous record of 16:42 was set almost five years ago by Pheara Vann, so it was exciting to see the record finally fall. Terence's running is a source of inspiration for many of our athletes, ...
