PPAC-80 400m Urban Race

An action-packed morning as youth and senior athletes took on the 400m on a straight stretch of outdoor tarmac. Meyjou started the morning's session by leading a group warm up followed by a demonstration and practice session for the crouch start. Every athlete had the opportunity to try out the starting position under the guidance of the coach before the start of the race heats.

Athletes were split into five heats of four per heat, with two athletes running twice and an additional solo heat for the last athlete who was officiating the finish line during the main heats. With one heat starting every three and a half minutes most of the racing was completed within twenty minutes from the start.
There were some great efforts all round with tight finishes in heats 2 and 5 and, for all the PPAC 400m first timers, PBs to set benchmarks for their next attempts at the same distance.

In the overall results ranked by points there was a strong PB for Chanpiseth beating his previous best by nearly 150 points and point-scoring performances for four first timers. There was one sub-60s performance, one sub-70s and six sub-80s runs. All athletes finished the race in under two minutes. Athletes are also ranked by four different categories, with positions for F Youth, F Senior, M Youth and M Senior categories.

The race was followed by an extensive cool down routine with a range of static stretches for the whole group.

Thanks this week to session leader Meyjou, race officials Seavmey and Sivmuyleng, and Dickson, Jack and Sanket for video and photos.

The race began at 6:03am in good running conditions with a slight breeze. This week we were glad to offer pacing for some of the popular time goals. Thanks to Hugo (Sub-20min pacer), Styvenn (Sub-22min pacer) and Jack (Sub-24min pacer) for their contributions. If you are interested in hitting a specific time goal at our next 5K race, let us know and we'll do our best to find a pacer if we can! In the men's race we saw Terence get out fast, showing his unmatched speed and helping himself to an all-time road course record of 16:24. The previous record of 16:42 was set almost five years ago by Pheara Vann, so it was exciting to see the record finally fall. Terence's running is a source of inspiration for many of our athletes, ...

In an attempt to beat the morning sun, the race started at 5:49 AM with 18 speedy runners taking the line. For this race, we were fortunate to have some PPAC members offer themselves for pacing duties; Jess (Sub-30), Mark (Sub-25) and Hugo (Sub-20). Their pacing had an obvious impact, with strong pace packs forming during the race and a number of people reaching their goals thanks to the pacing. At the front of the race, Hugo led a pack of six runners through the Park Lap running at sub-20 minute pace. The group gradually lost a few, but Paul (1st p...

Hugo (2nd) was next in line and added to his run of consecutive sub-20 performances, this time with a PB. Paul (3rd), reliable as ever, rounded out the podium with a sub-20 performance of his own.
