PPAC-133 3000m Track Meet [23 June 2024]

Our second 3000m track meet of 2024 set off at a timely 6:05AM in excellent conditions following overnight rain with15 runners completing the 7.5 laps in two heats between 11 to 21 minutes. A keen group runners with varying levels and experience showcased their determination and aerobic speed capacity in what was a first 3000m track race for a few, and a return to this distance for several!

The race report and full results are below. See you soon for more fun training sessions and athletics events!

Results
Jack, Meyjou and Sovannapanhaseth were the category leaders this week.
Bora recorded a huge personal best (PB), improving on his previous best previous effort by over 5m30s and four athletes improved their Best Points scores, signifying their strongest performance in any PPAC event, including a first points score for one runner!

We're always happy to see runners try out events on the track, which can seem daunting from afar however, consistent training and racing, including track, helps runners to raise their personal performance levels. This week Jack got the top spot while completing an amazing 50th event, while also training new volunteer officials to time and keep score - all of Phnom Penh Athletics is mightily proud of such dedication and commitment!

Analysis and Consistency
Consistent pace is one of the key elements to great performances in distance events on the road and the track. The analysis table and charts below allow runners to assess their pace per 1000m and per every 200m split.

The quickest 1000m and 200m splits for each runner are highlighted bold, and the quickest 400m split has the two respective 200m splits italicised.

It's often beneficial to have some additional pace available towards the end of the race that will be useful in competitive sprint finishes. In addition to the training and race practice required this also relies on not starting the race too fast. Similarly to our last 3000m outing, nine out of fifteen runners scored their quickest 200m split straight from the start signal (10/15 also scored their quickest 400m and 1000m splits the same way!). 5/15 runners managed to save their best single laps and sprint finishes to the final stretch and the same number achieved their best 1000m split in the final section.

Thanks as always to our volunteer officials and helpers on the morning – special mention to Bora officiating for the first time, with Jack, Meyjou, Seavleang, Sivmuyleng and pre- and post-race support & media from Neil!

PPAC-147 5km Road Race [4 May 2025]

For our May 5K we were pleased to welcome several new participants for their first event with Phnom Penh Athletics Club , including 7 visiting athletes from SheRuns Club. Developing inter-club competition is one of our priorities, so this week's race was a great step forward for club-level athletics in Cambodia. The race report and full results are below. Our next race will be a track meet on 01 June. Please stay tuned to our regular channels for a race announcement. Results Craig (1st male) led from the start, putting several seconds into the chase pack on the first lap and only extending his lead from there. Running alone did not seem to affect his plan as he ran away to a new PB and a comfortable victory. Things were a little closer in the chase pack with Hugo , Mathieu and Yohann working together to push each other and keep the race honest. Eventually, it would be the experienced Mathieu who was able to...

PPAC-141 5km Road Race [3 November 2024]

PPAC's November 5km was back at the regular Sokha course. 21 runners made it to the start line in wet and humid conditions though the rain stayed away for most of the race! The race report and full results are below. See you soon for more fun training sessions and athletics events including our next 3km race on 17 November! Results Adam provided the pacing duties for the sub-20 group and it looked promising early with a strong pack including Paul, Andarge, Tom, Hugo and Vincent sticking with him for much of the race. Eventually two athletes were able to break the elusive 20-minute barrier, while several others strode ever closer to that impressive mark. We love to see athletes pushing boundaries and attempting challenging goals, so there is never any shame in falling short of a target. Eventual first place finisher Paul was more than happy to let the lead pack go during the opening Park Lap, confident in his ability to reel them in as the race unfo...
